I’m working with a global leader in ship management and marine services, supporting a wide range of vessels across international operations. They are now looking for an experienced Vessel Manager to join their Southampton-based team.
The Role As Vessel Manager, you will be responsible for the technical management and operational performance of assigned vessels, ensuring they are operated safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual, regulatory, and budgetary requirements.
You’ll act as the key shore-based contact for day-to-day technical operations, working closely with onboard teams, owners, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth vessel performance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee technical management and performance of assigned vessels, including technical budgets
- Act as primary shore contact for daily technical operations and mobilisation activities
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, classification, and regulatory requirements
- Manage and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance to minimise downtime
- Track vessel performance and KPIs, taking action where improvements are needed
- Coordinate and oversee dry dockings, repairs, and shipyard periods
- Lead response to breakdowns, arranging repairs, spares, and service support as required
- Carry out vessel condition assessments in coordination with owners
- Monitor technical incidents and implement corrective actions and lessons learned
- Contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance systems and fleet performance
- Experience in a similar vessel/technical management role
- Experience working with passenger vessels (cruise, yachts or ferries)
- Sea-going engineering background desirable
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Good organisational and planning ability
- Confident problem-solver with a proactive approach
- Basic understanding of budgets and financial control
- Ability to develop practical and effective technical solutions
