Director, Underwater Systems

Lead the future of marine propulsion with a world-class cruise operator. We are seeking a Director, Underwater Systems to oversee podded propulsion, thrusters, fin stabilizers, and related underwater systems across the fleet. This hybrid role is based in Weybridge, UK, with occasional vessel visits.

The Role You will be the technical authority for fleet underwater systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations. Responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing system performance, maintenance, and overhauls
  • Leading major repairs, drydock work, and technical projects
  • Supporting fleet compliance with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and classification societies
  • Managing vendor relationships (e.g., ABB) and newbuild activities
  • Leading and developing the Underwater Systems team
  • Managing budgets, CAPEX projects, and cost-effective maintenance programs
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Chief Engineer license
  • Extensive marine propulsion experience, including Azipod or similar systems 
  • Strong fleet technical management, drydock, and budget experience
  • Expertise in electric propulsion and high-power azimuthing pods
  • Preferred: ABB Azipod certification, hybrid propulsion knowledge, data analytics proficiency
