Location – Malta
I am currently working with a leading cruise management company to recruit an experienced Vessel Manager to join their growing team.
This role is best suited to candidates with strong shore-based experience in a technical capacity (e.g. Technical Superintendent / Superintendent Engineer), ideally with exposure to passenger vessels.
The Vessel Manager will take ownership of the overall performance and operations of assigned vessels, acting as the key point of contact across technical, operational, and commercial functions.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned vessels, ensuring compliance with company procedures, international regulations, and safety standards
- Act as the central liaison between technical, marine, crewing, hotel, and commercial teams to ensure smooth vessel operations
- Monitor vessel performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective corrective actions
- Develop and manage maintenance strategies, including planning and budgeting for vessel systems and equipment
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including the development and enhancement of operational procedures
- Ensure compliance with relevant maritime regulations (e.g. SOLAS, ISM Code)
- Participate in incident investigations and implement preventative measures
- Provide leadership and guidance to onboard teams, promoting high standards and operational excellence
- Extensive experience within the maritime industry, with a focus on vessel management and technical operations
- Previous shore-based experience in a similar role (e.g. Superintendent / Vessel Manager)
- Strong understanding of ship systems, maintenance practices, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience within the cruise, yacht or passenger vessel sector
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Good financial awareness, including budgeting and cost control
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Degree in Marine Engineering or similar (preferred)
- Willingness to travel and attend vessels as required
