This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong maritime professional to take responsibility for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of specialist marine assets, while also supporting new infrastructure projects, asset conversions, commissioning activity and wider technical development work.
The Role
As Technical Superintendent, you will be responsible for the day-to-day technical management of assigned marine assets, ensuring they are maintained and operated safely, reliably and in line with statutory, class, industry and client requirements.
You will provide technical leadership across vessel operations, maintenance, repairs, inspections, dry dockings, conversions, commissioning and project support. The role will involve close collaboration with onboard teams, shore-based colleagues, suppliers, shipyards, class societies, owners and other key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical input and support for infrastructure projects, including asset conversions, commissioning and modification work
- Managing the technical performance of assigned assets, including planned maintenance, procurement, repairs, corrective actions and environmental efficiency
- Supporting onboard teams to ensure safe and efficient technical operations
- Monitoring technical performance and providing guidance to vessel and shore-based personnel
- Ensuring assets remain compliant with statutory, class, industry, owner and company requirements
- Carrying out vessel inspections and following up on technical findings
- Preparing repair specifications, reviewing shipyard proposals and coordinating dry dock activities
- Acting as the main technical contact for relevant stakeholders during repair, conversion and docking projects
- Promoting safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operations in line with the Safety Management System
- Preparing and monitoring technical budgets, including approval of requisitions, purchase orders and invoices
- Supporting emergency response activities as part of the fleet emergency team
- Leading the technical aspects of new asset takeovers and following up on warranty or guarantee claims
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A technical qualification in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, naval architecture or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on maritime experience
- At least 3 years' experience in a technical project management role within the maritime industry, or previous seagoing experience as Second Engineer or Chief Engineer
- Good knowledge of maritime regulations, class requirements, vessel machinery, marine systems and safe working practices
- Strong technical understanding of marine, electrical and power systems, as well as maintenance methodologies
- The ability to manage complex technical projects involving multidisciplinary teams onboard and ashore
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify safe, practical and cost-effective solutions under pressure
- The ability to analyse technical issues, coordinate information from multiple sources and anticipate operational risks
- A flexible approach to travel, including regular vessel visits
- The right to live and work in Belgium or the wider EU
- Fluency in written and spoken English
