Technical Superintendent
UK | Ferry Operations | Permanent

Faststream Recruitment is partnering with a leading UK ferry operator to recruit two experienced Technical Superintendents to join their engineering team.
Supporting a diverse fleet of conventional ferries, high-speed craft, and freight-only vessels, these are critical roles responsible for ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, reliability, and operational performance.
  
The Role
As Technical Superintendent, you will take responsibility for the technical management of assigned vessels, working closely with both onboard teams and shore-based colleagues to ensure safe and efficient operations.
You will play a key role in maintaining and improving vessel performance, leading technical activities, and supporting continuous improvement across the fleet.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the technical operation, maintenance, and repair of assigned vessels
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory, class, and company requirements
  • Manage planned maintenance systems (PMS), defect resolution, and dry-docking
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, reliability, and performance
  • Monitor vessel performance and implement solutions to optimise availability
  • Manage budgets, cost control, and contractor/supplier relationships
  • Lead technical investigations, identifying root cause and implementing corrective actions
  • Build strong working relationships across vessel crews and internal stakeholders
  
About You
We are seeking motivated professionals who combine strong technical expertise with effective leadership skills.
You will bring:
  • Proven experience in a Technical Superintendent or senior marine engineering role
  • Background in passenger ferries and/or high-speed craft
  • Strong understanding of marine systems, class, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience managing maintenance, dry docks, and technical projects
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
