A leading international shipowner is looking to appoint a Vessel Operator to join its London-based dry bulk team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced shipping professional to take responsibility for the day-to-day commercial and operational management of a fleet of dry bulk vessels, working closely with Chartering, Masters, agents, brokers and internal stakeholders.
The Role As Vessel Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring vessels complete safe, efficient and profitable voyages, from fixture through to final settlement.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day commercial operation of assigned vessels.
- Following vessels from fixture through to completion across voyage charter, time charter and COA business.
- Reviewing charter parties, recap terms, fixture notes and voyage estimates.
- Planning and monitoring voyages with consideration for profitability, safety, bunkers, speed, cargo requirements, routing and operational restrictions.
- Issuing voyage and employment instructions to Masters.
- Maintaining close communication with Masters, agents, brokers and other stakeholders throughout each voyage.
- Monitoring vessel positions, schedules and safety-related issues.
- Managing bunker calculations, procurement, surveys, analysis and any associated claims.
- Appointing agents and coordinating port-related requirements.
- Managing freight invoices, hire statements, payments and receipts.
- Preparing and managing laytime and demurrage statements, including despatch.
- Monitoring vessel performance and managing performance-related claims.
- Handling cargo, stevedore damage and other operational claims.
- Managing disputes and claims involving Owners and Charterers.
- Coordinating weather routing, pilots, towage, contractors and other vessel services.
- Maintaining accurate operational, voyage and financial records.
- Entering and reviewing voyage data and preparing monthly voyage results.
- Maintaining strong relationships with Masters, agents, brokers, surveyors and suppliers.
- Supporting colleagues and wider operational teams as required.
You should have:
- Previous experience in vessel operations within the commercial shipping sector.
- Exposure to the dry bulk market is advantageous.
- A good understanding of voyage operations, charter parties, freight, hire, laytime and demurrage.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
- A proactive, reliable and disciplined approach.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office / Office 365 skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
You will have exposure across the full commercial and operational lifecycle of dry bulk voyages, working closely with experienced Chartering and Operations professionals in a collaborative environment.
