The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced maritime HSSEQ professional to join a market-leading maritime organisation in a key leadership position.
Reporting directly to the Head of Maritime Transport, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering the HSSEQ and Assurance strategy across a diverse portfolio of maritime operations. You will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, security, environmental and quality performance while supporting the continued growth and success of the business.
As a member of the Maritime Transport leadership team, you will provide expert guidance on risk, compliance, assurance and operational performance, helping the organisation maintain its reputation for safety, reliability and operational excellence.
Leading a team of HSSEQ and Assurance professionals, you will work closely with operational leaders, customers, regulators and industry bodies to foster a strong safety culture, drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance across all areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the HSSEQ and Assurance strategy across the Maritime Transport division.
- Drive continuous improvement in health, safety, security, environmental and quality performance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime legislation, regulations, industry standards and customer requirements.
- Oversee marine assurance, vetting and operational risk management activities.
- Lead the investigation of significant incidents and ensure lessons learned are effectively embedded across the organisation.
- Develop and maintain robust audit, assurance and governance programmes.
- Support emergency preparedness, business continuity and crisis response activities.
- Partner with senior leadership teams to identify, assess and mitigate operational and strategic risks.
- Build strong relationships with customers, regulators, classification societies and industry bodies.
- Develop, mentor and lead high-performing HSSEQ and Assurance teams.
- Promote a proactive safety culture that supports both operational excellence and sustainable business growth.
We are looking for a senior maritime professional who combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership capability and commercial awareness.
You will ideally have:
- Significant leadership experience within the maritime, shipping, offshore, energy or related sectors.
- A proven track record leading HSSEQ, Marine Assurance or Operational Risk functions.
- Strong knowledge of maritime legislation and industry standards, including ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL and ISO management systems.
- Experience managing audits, compliance programmes and regulatory engagement.
- Strong incident investigation, risk management and crisis response expertise.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cultural and organisational change.
- Experience leading geographically dispersed teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to build credibility across operational and corporate environments.
