Job Description

This is a senior appointment within an experienced consultancy team and would suit a Master Mariner or senior marine professional with substantial seagoing experience combined with a strong track record in marine casualty, incident and accident investigation.

The successful individual will take a leading role in complex marine matters, investigating incidents, analysing evidence and producing clear, technically robust reports for a range of clients.

Alongside managing their own assignments, they will contribute to the technical quality of the wider team, providing guidance and support to other consultants where required.

The role will include:
  • Leading complex marine casualty and incident investigations
  • Reviewing operational, technical and documentary evidence
  • Establishing causation and contributing factors
  • Preparing detailed investigation and technical reports
  • Providing independent technical advice following marine incidents
  • Managing assignments from initial instruction through to final reporting
  • Reviewing technical work and supporting consistent investigation standards
  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to other consultants
  • Supporting wider marine consultancy assignments and client relationships
To be considered, you will ideally have:
  • A Master Mariner qualification or equivalent senior maritime background
  • Significant seagoing experience, ideally including senior command responsibility
  • Experience on larger commercial vessel types
  • Substantial practical experience conducting marine casualty or accident investigations
  • Investigation experience gained within a consultancy, shipping organisation, insurer, P&I environment, regulatory body or other relevant maritime organisation
  • Demonstrable experience producing detailed investigation and technical reports
  • The ability to analyse complex evidence and reach clear, defensible conclusions
  • The credibility to lead significant assignments and advise senior stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience supporting or developing other marine professionals would be advantageous
This is a senior-level appointment rather than an entry route into marine investigation. Applicants should already have meaningful investigation experience and be confident taking ownership of technically complex casualty matters.
