About the Role
Faststream is partnering with a leading international ship management organisation, to appoint a Marine Superintendent to support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of its heavy lift / multipurpose vessel fleet.
The role will be based in Singapore and will be responsible for providing marine, operational and HSEQ support to assigned vessels, ensuring compliance with company standards, statutory requirements, customer expectations and industry best practices.
This position is suited to an experienced Master Mariner with strong heavy lift, multipurpose or project cargo vessel experience, combined with prior shore-based experience in marine operations, ship management or vessel superintendent capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide marine and operational support to assigned heavy lift / multipurpose vessels.
- Ensure vessels operate in full compliance with ISM, ISPS, MLC, class, flag, port state and company requirements.
- Monitor vessel performance, navigational standards, cargo operations, crew performance and safety culture.
- Support heavy lift and project cargo operations, including cargo planning, stowage, lashing, stability, lifting arrangements and operational risk assessments.
- Review and support cargo securing plans, lifting plans, voyage instructions and operational procedures.
- Conduct vessel inspections, audits and onboard attendances to ensure compliance with company and client standards.
- Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions and lessons learned.
- Provide guidance to Masters and vessel teams on marine, cargo, navigational and safety-related matters.
- Support internal and external audits, inspections, client requirements and third-party reviews.
- Work closely with technical, crewing, HSEQ, commercial and operations teams to ensure smooth fleet performance.
- Monitor and improve vessel operational readiness, safety performance and marine assurance standards.
- Support implementation of company policies, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Travel to vessels and ports as required.
- Valid Master Mariner Certificate of Competency is required.
- Prior sailing experience as Master Mariner on heavy lift, multipurpose, project cargo or similar vessels.
- Previous shore-based experience as Marine Superintendent, Marine Manager, Port Captain, Cargo Superintendent or similar is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of heavy lift and project cargo operations, including cargo securing, lifting operations, stability, risk assessment and voyage planning.
- Good knowledge of ISM, ISPS, MLC, class, flag and port state requirements.
- Experience conducting vessel inspections, audits, incident investigations and operational reviews.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work with multinational crews, clients, port authorities, terminals and internal teams.
- Hands-on, practical and commercially aware approach to vessel operations.
- Willingness to travel regionally and internationally as required.
- Based in Singapore or willing to relocate to Singapore.
- Experience with global third-party ship management companies.
- Familiarity with customer-facing marine assurance requirements.
- Experience supporting complex cargo operations, heavy lift projects, breakbulk or offshore/project cargo movements.
- Strong HSEQ mindset and experience driving safety culture onboard vessels.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Master Mariner with strong heavy lift or multipurpose vessel experience, who has successfully transitioned ashore into a marine superintendent role. They should be comfortable advising Masters, supporting complex cargo operations, conducting vessel visits, managing operational risks and working closely with both shipboard and shore-based stakeholders.
