We are partnering with a shipping company in Papua New Guinea to recruit a Marine H&M & P&I Claims Officer to join a dynamic fleet management team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting fleet assets, managing marine liabilities, and driving best practice claims performance across a busy shipping operation.
The Opportunity
Working closely with vessel masters, technical teams, brokers, and insurers, you will manage the full lifecycle of Hull & Machinery and P&I claims across a diverse fleet operating in PNG and regional waters.
This role offers excellent exposure to marine operations, casualty response, risk management, and senior stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage H&M claims including machinery damage, collisions, grounding, repairs, and vessel incidents
- Handle P&I claims including cargo damage, crew injury, pollution, and third-party liabilities
- Coordinate surveyors, adjusters, lawyers, correspondents, and insurers
- Ensure timely incident reporting and accurate documentation
- Support recoveries against third parties and suppliers
- Track reserves, settlements, deductibles, and claim progress
- Produce claims trend reports and recommendations to management
- Promote loss prevention and continuous improvement across the fleet
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in marine claims, ship management, insurance, or fleet operations
- Strong understanding of H&M and P&I insurance processes
- Seagoing background as Master, Chief Engineer, Chief Officer, or Superintendent highly desirable
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to perform under pressure during incidents and emergencies
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
