You will act as the key link between shore-based management and ships, ensuring the Integrated Management System is robust, effective and aligned with best practice. The role covers safety culture initiatives, environmental performance, risk management and audit readiness, while providing day-to-day support to vessels and colleagues.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee safety, quality and environmental performance across the managed tanker fleet.
- Work closely with the Fleet Operations Manager to ensure smooth departmental operations.
- Compile and present safety statistics and KPI data for management reviews.
- Monitor audits, inspections, accidents and near misses, ensuring timely follow-up and closure.
- Lead or support incident investigations and safety meetings, including emergency drills.
- Administer and monitor the Company Drug & Alcohol Policy and occurrence management systems.
- Manage Management of Change requests, risk assessments and safety committee outputs.
- Support and maintain accreditation and compliance (ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO standards, TMSA).
- Master Mariner (Unlimited) or Chief Mate licence.
- Minimum 2 years sea service on tanker vessels, preferably in senior officer rank.
- At least 1–2 years shore-based experience in a similar marine operations or superintendent role (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS/ISO 45001.
- Solid understanding of tanker operations, risk management and incident investigation.
- Confident communicator able to engage both seafarers and shore-based teams.
- Analytical, detail-focused and highly organised, with a continuous improvement mindset.
