Faststream Recruitment is partnering with an established international ship management company to recruit a Deputy Designated Person Ashore (Deputy DPA) for their team in Busan.
Location: Busan, South Korea
This is a key shore-based leadership opportunity for an experienced Master Mariner with a strong background in marine safety, compliance, incident investigation and vessel operations.
The Role
Working closely with the DPA and QSHE leadership team, you will support the effective implementation of the company’s safety management systems and help drive a strong safety and compliance culture across the fleet.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the DPA in ensuring the effective operation of the QSHE function.
- Maintain and support implementation of the company’s Safety Management System.
- Monitor compliance with company procedures, international maritime regulations and industry requirements.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of safety, quality and operational procedures.
- Conduct and support investigations into significant marine incidents and accidents.
- Support internal auditing, risk assessment and corrective action processes.
- Promote a strong culture around safety, quality, health, security and environmental performance across shore teams and vessels.
- Provide operational support and act as backup to the DPA when required.
- Master Mariner licence / Class 1 Certificate of Competency.
- Minimum 2 years’ seagoing experience in a command position.
- Practical training for the role of Designated Person Ashore (DPA) in accordance with IMO requirements.
- Strong knowledge of international maritime rules, regulations and industry guidelines.
- Experience in internal audits, incident investigation and risk management.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Previous shore-based experience within a shipowner or ship management company would be highly advantageous.
- Fluent / professional proficiency in both Korean and English is mandatory to manage stakeholders.
- Based in, or willing to work from, Busan.
