Job Description

Are you an experienced commercial shipping professional looking for something a little different?

Faststream is partnering exclusively with a successful privately owned business in the Cayman Islands to recruit a Commercial Vessel Manager to act as their owner's representative.

This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of the commercial operation of a strategically important cargo vessel while enjoying the lifestyle and tax advantages of living in one of the Caribbean's most desirable locations.

Unlike many commercial shipping roles, this position offers direct access to company owners and the opportunity to influence how the commercial operation develops as the business continues to grow.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will act as the commercial focal point for the company's owned cargo vessel, ensuring efficient voyage execution, commercial administration and operational coordination.

The vessel primarily supports the company's own logistics requirements, creating a unique environment where commercial decisions can be made quickly and collaboratively.

As the business evolves, there will also be opportunities to help develop third-party chartering activities and enhance commercial processes.

Working closely with the vessel, third-party ship managers, port agents, brokers and internal stakeholders, you'll play a key role in ensuring the vessel operates safely, efficiently and commercially.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day commercial operation of the company's owned cargo vessel.
  • Coordinate voyage planning and execution alongside the vessel's Master and third-party ship managers.
  • Review, negotiate and administer charter parties, fixture notes and other commercial agreements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, port agents and commercial partners.
  • Ensure voyage instructions, commercial documentation and operational requirements are effectively managed.
  • Coordinate port calls, bunkering, provisions and other vessel support services through appointed service providers.
  • Monitor daily vessel communications and ensure operational issues are identified and resolved.
  • Prepare freight calculations, voyage costings and intercompany billing.
  • Produce voyage profitability reports and support commercial reporting to senior management.
  • Monitor operating costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Support future third-party chartering opportunities as the business continues to expand.
  • Work closely with third-party technical managers to ensure commercial and operational activities remain aligned.
  • Support compliance with applicable maritime regulations and contractual obligations.
About You

We're looking for an organized, commercially minded shipping professional who enjoys taking ownership and working in an entrepreneurial environment.

You will also have:
  • Experience within commercial shipping, vessel operations or chartering.
  • Strong understanding of voyage and/or time charter operations.
  • Working knowledge of charter parties, bills of lading and voyage documentation.
  • Experience working with Masters, ship managers, brokers and port agents.
  • Commercial awareness with experience preparing freight calculations or voyage costings.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
Seagoing experience or a Certificate of Competency would be advantageous but is not essential.

Why Apply?

This opportunity offers considerably more ownership than many traditional commercial shipping roles.

You'll work directly with senior decision makers, gain broad commercial exposure across the entire operation and have the opportunity to help shape the future development of the business.

In addition, you'll benefit from:
  • Competitive salary.
  • Tax-efficient employment in the Cayman Islands.
  • Comprehensive relocation support, including flights, temporary accommodation and vehicle assistance.
  • Health insurance.
  • Pension contribution.
  • Four weeks' annual leave plus public holidays.
  • Long-term career growth within a successful and expanding private business.
  • An exceptional Caribbean lifestyle with world-class beaches, diving and year-round sunshine.
