This position offers genuine responsibility for handling FD&D disputes from the outset. You'll assess charterparty and contractual disputes, provide practical legal and commercial advice directly to Members, and determine when matters should be referred to solicitors. Alongside this, you'll manage a varied portfolio of P&I claims, giving you exposure to a broad range of complex maritime matters.

- Manage a portfolio of both FD&D and P&I claims from notification through to resolution.
- Assess liability, coverage and quantum, gathering and analysing information to provide commercially focused advice to Members.
- Review charterparties, contracts and supporting documentation to advise on contractual disputes and claims strategy.
- Handle FD&D matters directly, including assessing whether claims are supported, monitoring legal costs and liaising with the Head of FD&D where required.
- Set and maintain accurate reserves, process payments and reimbursements, and ensure claims are managed within delegated authority levels.
- Monitor time bars, key dates and claims progression to ensure proactive file management.
- Work closely with Members, brokers, correspondents, surveyors and external legal advisers to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- Share knowledge across the wider Claims team and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support colleagues by providing guidance and technical assistance where appropriate.
- Build strong relationships through regular visits to Members, both within the UK and internationally.
- A minimum of five years' experience gained within a P&I Club, marine insurer or specialist maritime law firm.
- Proven experience handling both P&I and FD&D claims.
- Strong working knowledge of charterparties, maritime contracts and shipping disputes.
- The ability to assess claims independently and provide clear, commercial advice to Members.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex files simultaneously.
