The role will be responsible for managing a portfolio of P&I and related maritime claims for the Club's Asian membership, providing commercially focused claims advice and working closely with shipowners, charterers, brokers, correspondents, lawyers, surveyors and other external service providers.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the Club's continued growth across Asia and maintaining strong relationships with its Members.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage P&I claims from initial notification through investigation, negotiation, settlement and closure.
- Provide timely and commercially focused advice to Members on a broad range of maritime claims.
- Assess liability, quantum, coverage and reserves and ensure claims are handled in accordance with Club procedures.
- Appoint, instruct and manage external lawyers, correspondents, surveyors, experts and other service providers.
- Work closely with Members to understand their requirements and provide practical solutions to complex claims.
- Work closely with underwriting and loss prevention colleagues to identify emerging risks and provide feedback from claims experience.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive claims records and ensure timely reporting.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, charterers, brokers and other stakeholders across the Asian maritime market.
- Represent the Club at relevant industry meetings, seminars and Member visits.
- Contribute to Club publications, training, knowledge-sharing and loss-prevention initiatives where required.
- Approximately 3 years' PQE, with experience in P&I claims, marine insurance claims, shipping or a closely related maritime legal environment.
- Strong experience handling FD&D and P&I claims, ideally gained within an International Group P&I Club.
- Good understanding of P&I insurance principles, Club Rules and maritime liabilities.
- Strong knowledge of shipping operations and the commercial realities facing shipowners and operators.
- Experience managing claims independently from notification through to resolution.
- Strong negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable dealing directly with shipowners, charterers and senior industry stakeholders.
- Experience working with international lawyers, correspondents, surveyors and other maritime professionals.
- A legal, maritime or insurance qualification would be advantageous.
- Membership or progress towards relevant P&I / insurance qualifications such as P&I Qualification / CII would be beneficial.
- English, Cantonese and/or Mandarin language capability would be advantageous for the Mainland Chinese market.
