This is an opportunity for commercially driven chartering professionals with a strong background in geared dry bulk vessels who want greater autonomy, responsibility and the opportunity to directly influence the growth of a developing commercial platform.
The Role
You will join a lean, entrepreneurial chartering team focused on the Handy, Supramax and Ultramax markets. Rather than simply taking over an established book of business, you will be expected to develop your own cargo opportunities, build relationships with charterers, owners and brokers, and create commercially attractive employment opportunities for the fleet.
The environment is highly autonomous and will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of their market, developing new business and seeing the direct commercial impact of their work.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining relationships with charterers, cargo interests, shipowners and brokers
- Identifying and originating new cargo and vessel opportunities
- Negotiating and concluding voyage and time charter business
- Managing fixtures from initial opportunity through to commercial conclusion
- Monitoring freight markets and identifying emerging trading opportunities
- Working closely with colleagues to optimise vessel positioning and commercial performance
- Developing new projects and trading relationships rather than relying solely on an inherited customer base
- Contributing to the continued development of the company's dry cargo and tonnage strategy
Who We Are Looking For
We are particularly interested in professionals who can demonstrate:
- At least 3 years of commercial dry cargo chartering experience
- Strong experience within geared dry bulk shipping
- Proven exposure to Handy, Supramax and/or Ultramax vessels
- A strong commercial network within the dry cargo market
- The ability to originate business and develop relationships independently
- Confidence negotiating fixtures and making commercial decisions
- An entrepreneurial and proactive approach
- The motivation to work within a small, fast-moving commercial team
This opportunity is likely to suit someone who considers themselves a business developer as much as a charterer - someone capable of creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to arrive.
The Package
The company can offer a highly competitive Hamburg package, expected to include:
- Base salary competitive depending on experience
- Transparent performance-related bonus linked directly to commercial P&L
- Company car
- Significant autonomy and commercial responsibility
- Opportunity to play an important role in the continued development of the Hamburg operation
The position is based in Hamburg.
Candidates already based in Germany are naturally of interest, but the company is also open to strong Dry Cargo Charterers currently working in other major European shipping centres who would consider relocating to Hamburg.
For the right individual, some flexibility around the initial transition to Hamburg may also be considered.
If you have a strong background in geared Dry Cargo Chartering and are looking for an opportunity where you can build business, develop your own market and have a direct impact on commercial performance, we would be interested in speaking with you.
