Technical Executive

Location: Southampton

Employment Type: Permanent

Reports To: Fleet Manager / Technical Superintendent

Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Technical Executive to support the technical management of a fleet of vessels. The successful candidate will work closely with Technical Superintendents, vessel crews, classification societies, and suppliers to ensure vessels are maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all statutory and company requirements.

This role is ideal for a marine engineering professional looking to develop a career in shore-based vessel management within a fast-paced maritime environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the Technical Superintendent in the day-to-day management of assigned vessels.
  • Liaise with vessel crews and suppliers to ensure the correct sourcing and procurement of spare parts and technical consumables.
  • Coordinate repairs, servicing, and overhaul of equipment, including the management of shore-based repair activities.
  • Assist with vessel maintenance planning and monitor the completion of Planned Maintenance System (PMS) tasks.
  • Support the preparation, execution, and follow-up of dry dockings, surveys, and major repair projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of vessel documentation, drawings, manuals, certificates, and technical reports.
  • Monitor spare parts inventories and ensure stock levels are maintained in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Review vessel reports and identify technical issues, trends, or operational concerns requiring attention.
  • Track vessel performance data and prepare periodic reports for management.
  • Assist in monitoring classification and statutory survey requirements, ensuring certificates remain valid and up to date.
  • Conduct routine audits of technical records, maintenance data, and operational reporting systems.
  • Support budget monitoring by reviewing repair quotations, purchase requests, and expenditure reports.
  • Ensure technical databases and management systems are accurately maintained.
  • Work closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to support safe and efficient vessel operations.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Fleet Manager or Technical Superintendent.

Requirements Education & Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) as an Engineer Officer would be advantageous.
  • Additional maritime technical qualifications are desirable.
Experience
  • Previous experience within ship management, vessel ownership, marine engineering, or technical operations.
  • Experience using Planned Maintenance Systems (e.g., DNV ShipManager, AMOS, PAL, Bassnet, or similar) is desirable.
  • Seagoing engineering experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
