The Company

Our client is a historic shipyard that has been operating on the River Clyde since the early 1900s. They have a long history of successfully delivering a range of vessel types, with a focus on large passenger vessels. Based at Port Glasgow, in a state-of-the-art facility, they are now looking to add Lead Planner to the team.

Job Purpose

The overall purpose of the role is to develop and maintain detail production schedules. Create work packs and coordinate the required resource to successfully execute the work pack from planned start to planned finish. A key role within the project, supporting the lead planner in delivering the Project Master Schedule (PMS) to time, cost and quality.

Responsibilities and Duties


    * Develop and maintain production schedule
    * Create and manage schedule activity work packs
    * Assigning all necessary resources to work packs, managing and coordinating their delivery to point-of-use, prior to releasing work pack to production
    * Participate and manage area of responsibility within the Quarterly Lookahead Process
    * Liaising with production to validate and discuss schedule activity progress
    * Timely reporting of schedule activity progress slippage to activity stakeholders for review and action to recover
    * Effectively communicate with project lead planner to ensure continuous production schedule alignment with overall PMS
    * Liaise with other functions, subcontractors, ensuring continuous production schedule alignment and accuracy
    * Provide inputs into Project Progress Report

    * Strong communication skills, good negotiator and enjoy dealing with people
    * Conflict management skills
    * Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to absorb information quickly
    * Be able to make decisions, meet targets, adapt to change and work under pressure
    * Work as part of a team and individually
    * Develop planning documentation / reports

Education and Experience


    * Experience in a construction / manufacturing / marine environment (shipbuilding would be desirable but relevant experience will be acceptable)
    * 5 Years working experience in a planning role.
    * Higher National qualification or above relevant to industry
    * Good Understanding of planning and scheduling principles and techniques
    * Proficient in Primavera P6
    * Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint
    * Experience in ERP / MRP would be an advantage
