The Role

Responsible for leadership, management and strategic development of shipping operations. This includes accountability for ship management, crewing and bunkering activities.

This role is accountable for:


    * Management of the Ship Management contract
    * Ensuring that the ship manager maintains an industry best practice safe, secure and reliable operating regime and the operating licences for the fleet of 3 ships
    * Setting strategic direction to the ship manager and ensuring the ship manager develops and implements appropriate strategies for the safe, secure and reliable technical management and operation of the fleet of 3 ships (including crewing)
    * Ensuring the ship manager identifies and manages fleet operational risks and risk action plans
    * Assurance of the performance of the ship manager
    * Ownership of ship management and chartering risks and risk action plans
    * Ownership of the ship management annual plan and budget
    * Delivery of compliant, safe and secure marine transports
    * Oversight and implementation of chartering arrangements; operational planning estimating, sales (through the Business Development team), agency, bunkering and relevant supplier contracts
    * Assurance that vessel physical protection security arrangements are implemented as required by the security plans approved by the Office of Nuclear Regulation
    * Management and development of the Ship Management Team, including implementation of business continuity frameworks in support of marine operations

The role requires an individual who can lead and develop a team of professionals to deliver safe, secure, compliant, and cost effective radioactive material marine transports. Typical requirements are:


    * Degree in a maritime field or equivalent professional qualification with sea-going experience in a senior position as a deck or engineering officer
    * Commitment to operational excellence with a track record of improving performance and of leading cultural change
    * Good health, safety, security, environment and quality management knowledge
    * Experience in:

o ship management

o leading the development and implementation of strategy

o working in a highly regulated, safety and security critical business

o managing complex budgets and implementing appropriate financial controls

o commercial, contract management and procurement strategy

o leading, managing and developing a team of professionals


    * Understanding of:

o agency, bunkering and shoreside supplier services

o ship ownership

o programme / project governance, management and controls


    * Proven ability to build effective relationships across a wide range of customers, regulators and other key stakeholders
