Architecture businesses looking to hire again in 2011

22/02/2011

There are sure signs of renewed employment confidence in the architecture sector according to a survey of over 50 practices by Faststream.

We can report that 40% of organisations surveyed have taken on new employees within the last month, showing a boost in confidence after a period of turbulence.

There are positive signs for the year ahead with 80% of respondents stating that they will be either actively seeking new talent or considering putting recruitment plans back in place following a slowdown in employment.

Faststream’s Group CEO Mark Charman commented:  “It seems that the boost in recruitment could represent longer term improvements in market conditions with companies opting to take on both permanent and contract staff. From those businesses which are planning to recruit in the next year only 8.3% were looking purely for short term contract employees. 33.3% wanted to take on permanent staff and 58.4% were looking to recruit both. This is good news for the sector”.

Further redundancies look less likely in 2011 with only 23% of businesses who did not recruit in the last year citing a lack of new projects as the reason for this whilst 70% indicated that they had a stable workload with their current employees.

Some businesses are however still finding these times difficult. Over 70% of companies who had either suspended employee benefits, reduced salaries or cut down on working hours in the past have not reinstated these as yet.
